COURSE DESCRIPTION
The objective of this course is develop the reasoning skillset to understand and measure nano and macro issues related to the resistance to deformation in polymers

polymer structure <-> processing parameter determination <-> performance

TEXT
I intend to use a wide range of textbooks and will provide references in the handouts.

GRADING
Homework and lab experiments: Laboratory experiments: 30%
Exam 1= 20
Exam 2: 20
Final: 30

January 24: Rheology: Newtonian and non-Newtonian. Experiment on lotions
January 31: Phenomenological treatment of viscoelasticity, Creep and stress relaxation, time temperature superposition (dma and master curve data)
February 7: Rheological measurements (dma and master curve data)
February 14: Rheological measurements (interpreting the master curve, wlf basis
February 21: Rheological measurements (complete oscillatory testing and analysis)
February 28: take home exam
March 7:  Flow curves
March 21: Flow curves and two phase
March 28: take home exam and lab analysis
April 4: Polymer processing
April 11: Polymer processing
April 18: Polymer processing
April 25: Polymer processing
May 2nd: student presentations on short projects
